The issue of the Janjaweed still remains as a problem for Darfur as the UN struggles to force the Sudanese government to take action. The Africans are still being targeted by these "men on horses" (Janjaweed) while on top of suffering through the poverty and harsh conditions of Sudan. Malnutrition and diseases continue to claim many lives in Sudan, increasing the death rate that was already high due to the violence. Based on the reports from the World Food Program and the United Nations, there is an approximate of 3.5 million people suffering from lack of food within Darfur. As the issue remains unsolved, many new problems continue to rise such as the tension between Sudan and Chad and news of new armed movements appearing in Darfur and its neighboring state.
Currently, issues of forced labor and sex trafficking begins to develop in Darfur. Many African women and girls become victims of sexual abuse from the male residents in the household. They would be constantly force into commercial sex acts against their will, due to their lack of power to resist and the corruption of the society around them. The women also along with many other refugees are also subjected to force labor in order to survive. The children in Darfur also are affected by the corruptness. They would often be abducted and used in street begging, street vending, and used by armed groups.
